I am Jennifer Dixon and the author of the above poem. I was born and raised in a Christian family
where faith in God, love, and serving are commonplace. Past generations left a good legacy of these
for those of us who came behind.
As a veteran, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a writer, I still find great joy in helping people
and seeing them and communities grow and thrive. As a child, I was very fearful of life and never
would have dreamed that fear could be overcome by helping someone else.
I attended schools in Lexington and Gilbert, South Carolina, and graduated from Gilbert High School.
After graduating, I joined the Air Force and not only got the opportunity to travel and serve our
country, but also to serve communities both at home and abroad. I am presently retired, but still
serving in the community when I’m not taking care of my grandchildren.
My community service includes Women’s Ministry volunteer Victims of Domestic Violence shelter;
Distributing Meals-on-Wheels to the disabled and elderly; Working with grade school reading
programs; and donations and contributions to local food banks and other organizations. To date that
service is extended abroad and to the homeless. As resources, education programs, etc. are made
available, my goal is to continue using resources to communicate, educate, and transform lives and
communities. This is the good DNA in me and that I desire to leave behind.
